An Approach to Regenerate Assembly Feature Information from VRML Model for Collaborative Design

Abstract: VRML model has some advantages for collaborative design. However, its discrete facets of model lack a lot of design information, which limits collaborative design manipulations. Revolving feature occupies 70% of the entire design features and its feature parameters are important in design process. An approach to extract feature parameters from 3D VRML model with revolving features is presented, which can provide important parameters for collaborative manipulations such as collaborative dimension query, collaborative assembly and so on. In addition, an experiment is designed to analyze the performance of the algorithm, which shows that the algorithm had high efficiency under high-precision requirement.
