Abstract: An interactive virtual angioscope system for coronary arteries based on X-ray coronary angiograms and intravascular ultrasound images is constructed. First, the vessel including lumen and possible plaques is three-dimensionally reconstructed through fusion of both types of image data. Then, visualization of the 3D vessel model is implemented in the manner of endoscopic fly-through with virtual reality modeling language. Such a virtual coronary angioscope system can be used in the diagnosis of coronary artery diseases, in the study on the development of atherosclerosis, in the evaluation of interventional treatment and in the training of medical personnel.
