Abstract: Because “graphics” is the research object for both disciplines of “engineering graphics” and “graphics”, so “graphics” is discussed from its two sides of “shapes” and “pictures” in detail. Three kinds of “shapes” and “pictures” are concluded, and then the differences of research objects for both disciplines are pointed out. Through investigating some definitions for both disciplines, the new definitions are presented. Meanwhile the branches and corresponding subjects in each branch are put forward for both disciplines.
