    2014, 35(1): 16-20.
    Abstract ( 102 )   PDF (454KB) ( 213 )
This paper deals with the graphics searching method based on limited feature points. Instead of focusing on the relationship among the graphic elements, the feature points are selected to describe the graphics. All the feature points are uniquely determined by using of the distance between the feature point and datum point and the angle between the datum vector and the feature vector. Based on the analysis of those data, a method is provided for searching the most approximate feature points. The data are computed and integrated, and the numerical characteristic of the graphics is searched. Experiments show that the graphics searching method is valid.

Optimal Rational Parameterization Based on the Geometry of Quadratic Curvess Ends
    Li Yurong, Jiang Li
    2014, 35(1): 21-25.
    Abstract ( 94 )   PDF (593KB) ( 177 )
In this paper, the equation of algebraic curve segment with the geometric information of both ends is rewritten. The optimal or nearly optimal rational parameterization formula is determined according to the principle that parametric speeds at both ends are equal. Comparing with literature [8] and literature [9], the method in this paper has advantage in efficiency and is easy to realize. The equation of optimal rational parameterization can be obtained directly by the information of both ends. A lot of number of numerical experimental data shows that our method has more self-adaptability and accuracy than that of literature [10], and if the parametric speed at any end reaches its maximum or minimum value, the parameterization is optimal; otherwise it's nearly optimal rational parameterization.

    2014, 35(1): 46-51.
    Abstract ( 195 )   PDF (727KB) ( 232 )
Establishing three-dimensional simulation models of transmission towers rapidly is important for information management and analysis of the power grid. According to the structural characteristics of transmission towers, the tower is divided into several modules which have the similarity structure, and each module corresponds to a parametric three-dimensional model. Then modules are selected and assembled based on the type of tower and nominal height. By importing the parameters of modules into their parametric models, the three-dimensional model of various types and nominal heights of transmission towers can be completed quickly. Finally, the top structure of a cup shaped power transmission tower is used as an example to demonstrate this method. The 3D model can be established immediately only by inputting the type and nominal height of transmission tower. It is indicated that the parametric 3D modeling method for transmission towers is correct and practical.

    Abstract ( 104 )   PDF (557KB) ( 255 )
A new articulated steering mechanism that adopts a special dual-joystick and its structural type are introduced. An articulated steering mechanism of heavy vehicle is used as a certain study object, and the virtual prototype of the steering mechanism hinge point parameters is set up by the CAE software. With the “design study” method, the changes of the steering performance parameters and the design variable of the approximate sensitivity are obtained, and so are the hinge points with the greatest relevance. By using OPTDES-SQP optimization model and hereafter setting the objective function, the optimization design model whose optimization objective is set as the comprehensive steering performance optimal, is established. After optimization, the change rate of arm difference is -74.6%, and the increase of steering angle is +2.22%. Through the practical application, in the process of steering, the vibration and shock of steering hydraulic steering system is reduced, and the stability of the system is increased. With these good results achieved, the necessary basis can be provided for the control and operation of articulated steering system.

Orthogonal Polynomial Fitting for the Edge Detection and Beam Deformation Measurement
    Yuan Xiangrong
    2014, 35(1): 79-84.
    Abstract ( 99 )   PDF (579KB) ( 209 )
The gray-scale digital image is two-dimensional, and most of the previous polynomial fitting methods for edge detection are one-dimensional. The new method of two-dimensional orthogonal polynomial fitting for edge detection is presented. The two-dimensional fitting is actually more suitable for the two-dimensional image, and the fitting results are significantly better than that of the one-dimensional one. Because of the orthogonality of the polynomial function, the fitting coefficients can be determined by simple arithmetic method instead of the solution of algebra equation. So the high-order polynomial function can be used in the data fitting, and the fitting results are significantly better than that of ordinary polynomial. It is shown through the analysis of the synthesis image and the test of simply supported beam that the results of surface fitting and edge identification used of the proposed method are quite good. Within a certain image coverage, the precision of the beam measurement by proposed method is relatively same with dial gage results at the measurement point. Intense deflection data along the beam can be obtained by the proposed method, while only point deflection can be obtained by dial gage measurement.

Bayesian Perspective-Three-Point (BP3P) and Its Extensions
Hu Zhaozheng, Li Na2, Xia Kewen
    2014, 35(1): 85-92.
    Abstract ( 161 )   PDF (828KB) ( 225 )
The perspective-three-point (P3P) is a classic problem in both computer vision and photogrammetry fields, which has important applications in object localization, metrology, virtual reality, and pose estimation, etc. A novel algorithm is proposed, Bayesian P3P (BP3P), to solve the P3P problem. The determination of the support plane, which is uniquely defined by the three control points, is proven to be the necessary and sufficient condition to the P3P problem. A Bayesian approach to compute the support plane is given. Computation of the plane normal is formulated into a maximum likelihood problem by utilizing the geometric constraints of known angles and length ratios from the three control points. The likelihood for each constraint is modeled with normalized Gaussian function and the maximum joint likelihood is searched on Gaussian hemisphere to solve the plane normal. The plane distance is thus calculated readily from the actual distance between two arbitrary control points. Furthermore, the proposed BP3P algorithm can be extended to deal with more generalized planar constraints for localization rather than three control points. The proposed algorithm was validated with two real image experiments. In the first experiment, the algorithm was successfully applied to solve P3P problems. The multiple solution phenomenon of P3P was also illustrated and studied. In the second and third experiments, the algorithm was applied to localize planar object from generalized constraints with good results reported.

    Abstract ( 116 )   PDF (705KB) ( 213 )
Diversity appearance of character can create a realistic effect. It is an effective way to resolve the difference of the character appearance in crowd simulation scenarios by strengthening the diversity appearance of characters with texture. This paper puts forward a method to achieve diversification of the appearance by texture templates. First, UV is unfolded for the mesh model without texture coordinates as texture templates. Second, the texture templates are processed to get the semantic information of clothing based on image segmentation. Finally, the texture templates are filled with pure color or image tiles, and various textures can be gotten to achieve the goal of diversity appearances in crowd simulation. The proposed method is practical and feasible to solve creation efficiency issues of virtual character, and can quickly generate visually-convincing large-crowd simulation results.

    Abstract ( 107 )   PDF (625KB) ( 200 )
The production simulation development based on virtual reality technology often goes two extremes: either being far away from actual production process while lacking immersion effect or being too expensive as a huge project. To solve those problems, a new method has been established based on the architecture of production simulation system which was discussed in the author’s other papers. The actual production and the precise details should be considered before the fine granularity of the simulation is determined. The selected development tools and methods should be as lightweight and practical as possible. Based on those ideas, a Chinese traditional medicine simulation system has been developed. It is characterized by practicality.
