XING Kai-xin, TIAN Ling, TONG Bing-shu
    2010, 31(4): 1-6.
    Abstract ( 97 )   PDF (780KB) ( 174 )
VRML model has some advantages for collaborative design. However, its discrete facets of model lack a lot of design information, which limits collaborative design manipulations. Revolving feature occupies 70% of the entire design features and its feature parameters are important in design process. An approach to extract feature parameters from 3D VRML model with revolving features is presented, which can provide important parameters for collaborative manipulations such as collaborative dimension query, collaborative assembly and so on. In addition, an experiment is designed to analyze the performance of the algorithm, which shows that the algorithm had high efficiency under high-precision requirement.

    2010, 31(4): 7-11.
    Abstract ( 86 )   PDF (564KB) ( 238 )

In the reverse design of vehicle body, there are thousands of triangular topological networks. If input these large data into three-dimensional software directly, the ability of computer in display, analysis, saving, transferring, etc. can’t afford it. A quadratic-error-based edge collapse simplified algorithm for the surface reconstruction is researched. The algorithm takes the sum of squares of distance between point and correlation plane as error measure, makes repeated selective edge collapse, and realizes efficient simplification. The results show that the algorithm has high stability and efficiency.

The actual movement of materials in discharge process is very complicated when materials leave the head pulley. The force acting on the materials is analyzed by using kinematics theory and the conditions causing critical states are researched, which include horizontal transport, upward transport and downward transport. The tangent angles and the positions of the materials comparing with the original positions are also identified when the conveyer belt enter the roller by different angles. The conclusion is educed after studying the movement of the particles on the belt. Finally the mathematical equation of discharge trajectory is established and the trajectory is plotted on computer.

Bevel gears are used in developing new type of power distribution box driven by single force. The device needs high precision gears which are hard to accomplish by traditional design. So gears designed by using Solid Edge can be directly processed by NC manufacturing after modeling and will be improved both in their precision and carrying capacity without changing parameters and materials. The research is based on the combination of Solid Edge and Excel. The method of design can be used in various bevel gears in power distribution box and also has a reference value for modeling of complicated parts.

    Abstract ( 162 )   PDF (488KB) ( 356 )
An effective real-time soft shadow algorithm is presented. First, the shadow map from the light view is generated. Then the scene is rendered into a screen buffer texture rather than the real screen. Next, the percentage closer filtering (PCF) is used to remove the aliasing on the edge of shadow. Finally, the Gaussian filter is used to blur the screen. The results indicate that the algorithm not only produces a good soft shadow, but also has real-time effect for dynamic scenes.

    2010, 31(4): 32-38.
    Abstract ( 135 )   PDF (676KB) ( 224 )
Bi-directional reflectance distribution function (BRDF) is a major approach to represent a surface’s appearance for image synthesis in computer graphics. Spatial BRDF (SBRDF) is one state-of-the-art method, which stores BRDF coefficients at each pixel of a map as a surface appearance. It has only a small storage size overhead relative to a standard RGB texture map, but it is more realistic. However, SBRDF acquisition is hard and tedious. So a novel editing method is proposed to compose SBRDF from both the measured SBRDF and a standard RGB image. Finally, the examples show the good rendered results by using this method.

    2010, 31(4): 39-34.
    Abstract ( 135 )   PDF (592KB) ( 185 )
Traditional Texturing by using a set of two dimensional image maps is an established and widespread practice. However, it has many limitations. Parameterizing a model in texture space is very difficult, particularly with representations such as implicit surfaces, subdivision surfaces, and very dense or detailed polygonal meshes. Based on an adaptive octree textures method, a kind of 3D volumetric texture approach is proposed which has less storage requirements to general octree textures maps. In addition, it carries on texture lookup in the GPU, which makes lookup much faster.

The proposed algorithm has theoretically been proved using projective geometry theory. An evaluation of results using AutoCAD has been carried out, proving that the proposed method is both effective and easy to be used.

Second, the IFS with Sierpinski triangle can be modulated to generate new IFS and new attractors, so this is a valuable method to obtain the new IFS from the given IFS.

    Abstract ( 108 )   PDF (663KB) ( 181 )
A new rotation invariant texture feature extraction method in the ridgelet transform domain is proposed. This method is that texture features are firstly extracted in every frequency subbands generated by 1-D wavelet transform in the ridgelet transform, and then relationship features between high frequency subband and low frequency subband in the same scale are extracted by constructing histogram, finally 1-D DFT is applied to above two types of features, and the amplitudes of Fourier coefficient are selected and fused using feature-level method, accordingly the rotation invariant texture features are attained. Experimental results show that the method proposed can achieve better classification performance comparing with another two existing methods.

    Abstract ( 128 )   PDF (673KB) ( 162 )
A new method to visualize 3D rotation-free vector fields is presented, which tries to construct a surface in space so that the vectors on it are all orthogonal to it. Firstly, the system of partial differential equations of the surface is established, and then solved by our numerical method similar to classical fourth order Runge-Kutta method. Finally, the discrete points corresponding to the numerical solutions are triangulated to approximate the desired surface. Our numerical method for the partial differential equations borrows the idea of solving ordinary differential equations and the surface constructed reveals the continuity of the vector fields to a greater degree than point icons and line icons.

The interpolating function has a simple and explicit mathematical representation, which is convenient both in practical application and in theoretical study. The interpolating surface can be modified by selecting suitable parameters under the condition that the interpolating data are not changed. Some properties of the interpolation are derived.
